30 Amps

30 Amps

This was a painting that I really just did for fun because it wasn’t for an assignment or a show. I was just in the mood to play around with bright colors and dramatic lighting. If you can’t tell, it is actually just a pile of the old style screw in fuses that were used instead of breakers. When they burned out, you had to replace them instead of just flipping a switch. Anyway, I knew I wanted to paint something, I just hadn’t figured out what yet. So I went down to the Habitat for Humanity, ReStore and took a load of photographs of different things. I actually had six different compositions picked out to paint, but this is the only one I have gotten around to doing so far. I really enjoyed all the ovals and arcs throughout the composition. The best thing about it for me is of course the really bright colors. Those aren’t made up by the way, for what reason I don’t know, but real fuses are brightly colored like that. I suppose it may differentiate between the amperages, but I have not actually checked into that to know for sure, so don’t take my word for it. It may be somewhat obvious, but the reason it is named 30 amps is because that is the amperage of the most prominent fuses.
